Thursday’s live racing program at Kentucky Downs has been moved to an 11:00 AM CT first post due to a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service for the Franklin, Kentucky area.
Kentucky Downs management made the decision out of abundance of safety, and in conjunction with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and the horsemen. Originally scheduled as an 11-race program, Thursday will now only run Races 1 thru 7 as scheduled.
The $750,000 Marsh McLennan Bowling Green Gold Cup Invitational, scheduled as Race 9 on Thursday, will now be run on Wednesday, September 9, a day that is also scheduled to feature the Grade 3, $2 million Blackwood Dueling Grounds Oaks Invitational and the $750,000 Pepsi Juvenile Mile. The Kentucky Downs racing office will re-open invitations for the Bowling Green Gold Cup, which will be redrawn tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2.
Additionally, Races 8, 10, and 11 for Thursday’s card are listed in the condition book for either Monday, September 7 or Wednesday, September 9 (horses must be re-entered) and post positions are to be drawn Tuesday, September 1 or Wednesday, September 2. The Racing Department expects to card two divisions of all three races for the final two days of the meet provided that sufficient entries are received.
The 1/ST BET Kentucky Downs Meet will be broadcast live each day of the seven-day meet on Peacock, FanDuelTV, as well as Kentucky Downs’ YouTube channel @kydownsracing. NBC Sports also will provide live coverage of Opening Day from 3:00-5:00 PM CT, while NBC will air Kentucky Downs on Saturday, September 5 during the same time slot.
